1. JOHN
PENNEKAMP Coral Reef State Park
It is the first place which I would like to
visit during my “Dream Journey” to protected areas. First of all, I chose it
because I am fascinated by marine, underwated life, by the sea and I’m fond of snorkeling and my
dream is to experienced scuba diving in of the most beautiful Sea areas with
breathtaking coral reef. That kind of place, In my opinion, represents JOHN
PENNEKAMP Coral Reef State Park in Florida, which is famous marine preserve.
The coral reef state park is within Florida State Park is located on the
largest Key Largo Island in the upper Florida Keys archipelago. Key Largo itself
is a popular tourist destination and is called the "Diving Capital of the
World" because the living coral reef is just a few miles offshore. The
Park itself includes approximately 70 nautical square miles (240 km²) of
adjacent Atlantic Ocean waters and what is the interesting and the most incentive to visit it is the fact that it is the
first underwater park in the United States. I would like scuba dived into Molasses
Reef, which is one of the main attraction of the Park and it is coral reef
located within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. I would able to
admire by scuba diving or from glass-bottom boats various soft corals and fish
species which aren’t trouvable on the other ocean water basins besides Atlantic
Ocean. More over JOHN PENNEKAMP Coral Reef Park provide interested in it with
many other attractions such as: canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking,
picnicking, swimming and wildlife viewing. On one of the web sites (http://www.fla-keys.com/pennekamp50/
)which are in regards with what has to offer JOHN PENNEKAMP Coral Reef Park I came
across following very tempting information: "It's
the oldest underwater park, not just in Florida, not just in the U.S., but it
set a precedent for the world," said Earle. "This protected area where even the fish have a safe haven, is a
gift to the world."
2. Canyonlands
National Park is a U.S
Canyonlands National Park is the second place
where I would love to go. It preserves a colorful landscape eroded into
countless canyons, mesas and buttes by the Colorado River and the Green River.
As a National Park of United States was
established in 1964 and is located in southeastern Utah near the town of Moab.
The park covers 1,366 km2 and anyons are carved into the Colorado Plateau by
the Colorado River and Green River. It’s divided into four districts: the
Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the rivers themselves. All of
those areas share a primitive desert atmosphere, however each of them retains
its own character. I would like to explore all of four district in order to
catch sight of how multifarious can present itself nature and how various can
be landscape of Planet Earth. What’s more I am enthusiast of admiring nature in
conjunction with physical and motor activity and that is exactly what that
place offer interested in it people. Some of activities which I could and
simultaneously would like to take up there are biking, four-wheel drive, hiking,
horseback rides, river running, fiver rafting and watching wildlife at the same
time. I consider that very interesting to see there are typical xerophil flora (deserts plant) and fauna represented
by different species of amphibians, or reptiles or mammals. Moreover it is a
perfect place to admire classic landforms and the result of geologic processes,
reach the knowledge about them, and follow countless of canyons excavated by both of rivers the Colorado River
and the Green River. I hope that I would have a chance to experience nature
values of Canyonlands National Park.
3. Tsavo National Park
of Kenya
My third choice is one of the oldest and
largest parks in Kenya – Tsavo National Park, which is divided into east and
west part by the nearby Nairobi-Mombasa road and railway. Tsavo West National
Park is located in the Coast Province of Kenya and it covers an area of 9,065
km². Tsavo East National Park is that largest one has 11,747 km², and it is
located near the village of Voi in the Taita District of Coast Province. The
nearby flowing Tsavo River flows from west to east through the national park
and it borders the Chyulu Hills National Park, and the Mkomazi Game Reserve in
Tanzania.
Most of the park consists of semi-arid
grasslands and savanna. It is considered one of the world's biodiversity
strongholds. In my opinion it’s one of the most amazing places due to the vast
amounts of diverse wildlife that can be seen there, including the famous 'big
five' consisting of masai lion, black rhino, cape buffalo, elephant and leopard. I have to admit that may childhood dream is
to see all of representatives of “big five” at the one place, and that goal
would be achievable at Tsavo National Park. Besides that, as it is one of the
largest animal reserves, many other species of animals (mostly mammals) can be
seen there, such as: yellow baboon, caracal, african wildcat, small antelope
dik-dik, the large African elephants known as ‘savanna elephants’, gazelles, giraffe and many others. What is
one of the main attraction of that place is the fact that significant majority
of living there animals are endemism species (unique for that particular
geographic location). The Tsavo National Park has a various other attraction,
besides animals, like rocks (The Mudanda Rock), places of lava flows (The Yatta
Plateau), water falls, however what attracts me the most are distinctive
animals which are settled there.
